Golf imitates life in many ways:  Work hard.  Play by the rules.  Never give up.  Trust yourself.  Encourage others.   Respect your opponents.  Kids learn their values from their parents and there is no better way for fathers and sons to bond than spending time together playing the great game of golf.

God has blessed me by having 50 years to play golf with my Dad, and we're still playing together.  God willing, we will be playing together again this year in the Missouri Golf Association Father - Son Tournament, which has become the most popular event on the MGA schedule.  So popular in fact, that we have expanded the format to include two different golf courses to accomodate everyone who wants to play.  The ages range from my 88 year old Dad to 13 year old sons.

For some reason,  even though Dad and I have had success in individual competition,  we always play better together as a team.  I finally figured out why:  we trust each other more than we trust ourselves, which makes us more confident.  More importantly, we have the attitude that these are the greatest times of our lives.  Trust me, we are competitive and have won our share of tournaments, but it doesn't matter how we play because just having the opportunity to play together makes us winners before we ever hit a shot.  (Besides that, I couldn't find a better partner,  and if I had looked for a better father or friend, I couldn't find one.)

This is a game you can share with your son or dad for the rest of your lives and an experience you will not forget.  I encourage you to get involved with this organization.

The Newsomes (3 generations of golfers)

For the Newsome family, golf has been a way to stay connected. We have enjoyed many wonderful days on golf courses around Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Golf has been a shared passion for my dad and I for as long as I can remember and now my own son is learning and enjoying this great game. My dad has taught me many life lessons through the game of golf. To succeed in golf and life, we must persevere through the rough, the hazards and the bogeys and stay humble and focused through the fairways, pars and birdies. I am thankful to God for blessing me with a dad who introduced me to golf and for my own son, Aaron, who I am very proud of on the course and off. My hope and prayer is that many more fathers and sons will grow closer together through Bruce's vision of FSGA. Hope to see you on golf course!

Son's are a blessing from God.  I am thankful to be God's son and to be given the privilege to be an earthly father.  I am blessed to have two wonderful children and to have a son who loves to be with his Dad and play golf.  My hope is that I will continue to grow and learn as a father and that I will be able to be a source of love, support and encouragement for my son.
